GOBI® Library Solutions from EBSCO and ByWater Solutions Partner to Improve Koha Workflows

~Partnership will Create a Unified Acquisition Workflow to the Koha Open Source Library System ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — August 7, 2018 — A new partnership between GOBI® Library Solutions from EBSCO (GOBI Library Solutions), a division of EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO), and ByWater Solutions is aimed at helping Koha libraries. Libraries using the Koha Open Source ILS are now able to use new functionality to streamline the acquisitions process. The GobiAPI Plug-in, which allows Koha systems to fully integrate with the GOBI platform in real-time, will now facilitate the immediate transfer of bibliographic and order data.

The result of this partnership is the ability for Koha users to easily search for e-book and print titles in the extensive GOBI online catalog. All orders placed in GOBI will be automatically delivered to Koha, creating a brief bibliographic and order record in the open source ILS. The plug-in, which will work on Koha Version 17.05 and higher, will further enhance the workflow process and make it easier and more efficient for customers to locate titles and place orders.

EBSCO Information Services Vice President of Sales, United Kingdom, Ireland and the Nordic Countries, Gareth Smith, says the partnership with ByWater Solutions enhances GOBI Library Solutions’ ability to develop more efficient, streamlined workflows. “We’re committed to working with partners like ByWater to improve technologies that make the lives of librarians easier, ultimately improving the experience for library patrons. Librarians at sites using the Koha Open Source Library System will now be able to quickly find and acquire new titles, building more robust print and e-book collections.”

Brendan Gallagher, CEO of ByWater Solutions stated: “We are thrilled to introduce the new GOBI plugin to the Koha community and are excited to expand on our already robust partnership with EBSCO and GOBI Library Solutions. By streamlining these processes, we are improving the workflows of libraries using our products to make their day to day jobs more efficient and streamlined.”

This development is a result of an agreement between ByWater Solutions, the American University of Rome and EBSCO. GOBI customers interested in learning more and setting up the workflow should contact their GOBI representative or view the plug-in specification on GitHub.
