Abstract
The article focuses on the 1900 Paris Olympics, highlighting how the Games served as a showcase of France's economic, military, and technological strength rather than solely a sporting event. Held alongside the 1900 Exposition Universelle, the Olympics featured a diverse and extensive program lasting over five months, including traditional sports, motorsports, military shooting contests, and ballooning competitions with clear military applications. The official report, produced by the French Ministry of Trade, Industry, Postage and Telegraphs, emphasizes the nationalistic and utilitarian purposes behind the events, reflecting France's priorities in innovation and defense following the Franco-Prussian War. Ballooning competitions, in particular, were notable for their scale and connection to emerging aviation technology.
