David S. Garnett
David S. Garnett is a British science-fiction writer and editor known for his extensive contributions to the genre. Biography
David S. Garnett is a British science-fiction writer and editor. He started writing space adventure novels while he was a teenager, and he continued to write while he studied for a bachelor’s degree in economics. In 1969, Garnett published his first novel, Mirror in the Sky. Since that time, he has published many science fiction using his own name and several pseudonyms. Some of Garnett’s earlier titles were published under the name Dav Garnett, and he uses his middle initial so he will not be confused with another author named David Garnett.
In addition to writing novels and short stories, Garnett edited many science-fiction short-story anthologies, including some of the books in the New Worlds, Zenith, and Orbit Science Fiction Yearbook series. For his editing work, he has been hailed as the leading British anthologist by some critics and by many science-fiction readers and writers. Garnett inherited the editorship of New Worlds from his longtime friend and colleague, Michael Moorcock, and he received special praise for his work on the New Worlds series.
Under the pseudonym David Ferring, Garnett wrote the top- selling Konrad Trilogy, a tie-in to the role-playing video game Warhammer. The trilogy consists of Konrad (1990), Shadowbreed (1991), and Warblade (1993). Garnett’s short story “Still Life” was nominated for a Hugo Award for best short story. He also has been approached by the producers of the The Simpsons television series to create a cartoon version of his work.
