Irish Sinn Fein Party Is Founded

On November 28, 1905, the Sinn Fein Party was founded by Irish activist Arthur Griffith. Sinn Fein, its members, and sympathizers played a significant role in the struggle for Irish freedom during the 20th century. To many people, Irish and otherwise, this struggle has continued to the present day, since the territory of Northern Ireland remains under British control. Groups like the Irish Republican Army (IRA), with which Sinn Fein has many historical connections, consider this to be an unacceptable occupation. Others believe that Sinn Fein, its successors, and splinter groups have had a noble part in securing freedoms for the Irish people but should renounce the use of violence in the ongoing conflict in Northern Ireland. How this conflict will be resolved is the province of the future.
