Background
From its inception as a celebratory centenary celebration in 1970, Folklorama has valued mutual respect through a culture of appreciating diversity. An innovative spirit pervades the organization of the festival and is further reflected in the array of pavilions set up to promote and foster multicultural life.
Events occur all over Winnipeg at different venues. Children under the age of twelve are not required to pay an entrance fee. This applies when attending the event with an adult and is restricted to a maximum of five children per adult. Methods of payment for youth, adults, or seniors are single admission purchases, group fun packs, mini fun packs, or VIP tours.
Pavilions are set up to display authentic food and cultural goods. Examples of cultural profiles include a Punjab pavilion, Italian, African, Caribbean, and Pearl of the Orient Philippine pavilions. At each pavilion, guests can sample the food or beverages that exemplify the culture. There is an opportunity at each site to acquire knowledge of the particular culture and, furthermore, to experience increased awareness and understanding of these cultures. The 2024 festival welcomed almost 300,000 visitors.
Volunteers play an important role in the festival proceedings. Approximately sixteen thousand volunteers assist throughout the time by manning the pavilions or assisting at various events. Administrative help is fulfilled by volunteer staff, and a volunteer might also drive the festival's president and guests, provide information, or welcome guests.

Overview
The Folklorama festival comprises three dominant themes. These fall under portfolios of education; entertainment and tourism; or teachings, talent, and travel. The festival is heavily reliant on its multitude of volunteers who share the tasks of creating and running this huge multicultural event.
Bringing culture to the classroom is an initiative designed by Folklorama to educate students regarding appreciating cultural differences. Folklorama Teachings is the educational division sponsored by Boeing Canada Operations Ltd. and Future First. Workshops are offered by entertainers, with the educational themes and performances giving the students a unique way of fostering ethnic and cultural pride.
Folklorama offers world-class entertainment at the festival, booked by the Folklorama Talent booking agency. In 2024, Folklorama featured many pavilions representing cultures from around the world, including the Japanese Pavilion, the Latin American Pavilion, and the Pearl of the Orient Philippine Pavilion.
Customized group tours are organized to present visitors with the opportunity to explore the sites and attractions of Winnipeg. Within the festival itself, VIP tours, charged at a special rate, ensure guests who so choose will have specialized treatment. Visitors to Folklorama have the choice of creating their own schedule, visiting pavilions as they wish, or participating in a guided tour where arrangements are taken care of by the organizers. Customized tours are possible.
The fifty-third celebration of Folklorama occurred in 2024 when almost 300,000 individuals viewed over eight hundred exhibits. A festival that began as a way to commemorate the 1970 centennial celebration of Manitoba has evolved into a yearly event celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people. Far from the one event initially envisaged, the experience is advertised worldwide through various social media and via Folklorama’s comprehensive website. Individual pavilions may also publish events through their own private websites or social media platforms.
