The Panelists
Tom West spent more than 20 years in bookselling and publishing - working for two national retail chains, two independent bookstores (in Minnesota and Vermont), and a small publisher - before coming to the library world to work for the Brazoria County Library System in 2002 as a branch manager. He has been the Adult Coordinator for BCLS since 2008.
Tammy Clausen has worked in public libraries for over 20 years. At Berwyn Public Library (IL), Tammy led a Readers’ Advisory Department then supported and nurtured the library’s RA services as the Director. For the past two years, Tammy has been Branch Manager of the James H. LaRue Library (Highlands Ranch, CO), a library within the Douglas County Libraries District, and is committed to transforming her library into a collaborative and committed institution that excites the expectations of its users. She is also the co-author of The Horror Readers’ Advisory: The Librarian’s Guide to Vampires, Killer Tomatoes, and Haunted Houses (1st edition).
Duncan Smith is the general manager (and founding partner) of NoveList. He was inspired to develop the NoveList readers’ advisory database based on research he conducted on why readers read what they read. Duncan is passionate about the power of libraries, and readers’ advisory, to transform lives. He is the author of the article “Books: An Essential Part of Essential Libraries,” published in Public Library Quarterly.
