The Charleston Conference is an informal annual gathering of librarians, publishers, electronic resource managers, consultants, and vendors of library materials in Charleston, S.C., from October 31 – November 5, to discuss issues of importance to them all. It is designed to be a collegial gathering of individuals from different areas who discuss the same issues in a non-threatening, friendly, and highly informal environment. Since it began in 1980, the Charleston Conference has grown from 20 participants in 1980 to over 1,600 in 2014.
Scholarship applicants must reside in the United States or Canada, and currently be employed as a librarian or para-professional. The application consists of providing one professional recommendation, a curriculum vitae and a short essay that describes what the applicant’s library will be like in five years.
