IPSWICH, Mass. — October 12, 2015 — The Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS), one of the most prestigious universities in the Republic of Azerbaijan, has implemented EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). EBSCO Discovery Service will play a very important role in the school’s plan, Towards Our Future, which identifies strategic directions for BHOS library development over the next three years. BHOS was established as a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) in 2011 under the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
A significant component of Towards Our Future includes catering for the changing needs of researchers and learners by providing digital materials and services. The Rector of the Baku Higher Oil School, Mr. Elmar Gasimov, says EDS will serve the needs of the students by providing fast, relevant results. “EDS will provide our students and teachers relevant resources. Due to its superior relevancy ranking algorithm, the benefit to student learning is that students will save time because they are rewarded with successful searches through EDS and will develop confidence and competence in their research abilities.”
Gasimov adds that EDS supports Toward Our Future by providing access to all their resources from anywhere on campus. “It was very important that EDS provides access to all library information resources at any time and from any location. EDS will be available from the library’s website 24/7, to all BHOS students, faculty and staff on and off campus.”
As the first university in Azerbaijan to implement EDS, BHOS sees EDS as an essential part of its development and so far the experience has been very positive. Gasimov says “Users have been very satisfied with EDS’s searching and how user-friendly our platform is. The EDS customer service has also been outstanding.”
EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of its relevance and value ranking technology.
