The California Institute of Technology has Selected EBSCO Discovery Service™

~ Top Ranked Academic Institution Improves Research for Students & Faculty ~

IPSWICH, Mass.March 16, 2015 — The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) has chosen EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) to provide its users with the highest quality results from articles, e-books, the library catalog, institutional repositories, and other sources.

For the fourth year in a row, Caltech was named the top university in the world in the Times Higher Education World University rankings. Kristin Antelman, Caltech’s University Librarian, stated “We are making many improvements to library platforms and services, and EDS is an important part of this. Our students and faculty expect the most relevant and valuable result to appear at the top of the result list, and EDS does a superior job in this regard. We are also pleased with EBSCO’s open, ILS-neutral approach to discovery that allows us to choose the best discovery service and then make it work with whichever ILS we choose for the backend. We are excited to move forward.”

The implementation of EDS ties in with Caltech’s mission as a pioneering research and education institution and the Caltech Library's mission as a user-centered organization that provides advanced information services.

Caltech and EBSCO will also be conducting joint user research with Caltech’s graduate student user community. Kate Lawrence, EBSCO’s Vice President of User Research commented: “With more than 8,000 libraries using EDS around the globe, we have a huge cross-section of customers with whom we can work together to refine the approach to discovery. In the fall, we will be working closely with Caltech’s graduate students, and it is exciting knowing we may be working with a future Nobel Prize winner.”

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box.
