Charleston Southern University Chooses EBSCO Discovery Service™

Advanced Features, Functionality and Customization Options of EDS <br />Cited as Key Factors in Decision

IPSWICH, Mass.May 12, 2014Charleston Southern University in South Carolina has selected EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) to provide an easy to use and powerful discovery tool that will search its entire collection. The discovery solution from EBSCO will be known as DiscoverSearch and will be used to search all of the University’s databases as well as the library’s catalog.

Eileen Lutzow, Systems Librarian at Charleston Southern, says “We love being able to limit the initial search to materials that are available to our users in print or electronic format, yet with an easy toggle we can search further for things which may also be available via interlibrary loan. A single click then allows our students to either access the full text or generate an ILL request with most of the information filled in for them.”

Charleston Southern is also taking advantage of many of the features and functionality of EDS including Real Time Available Checking, CustomLinks, Widgets as well as Source Type and Subject Limiters. Lutzow has also worked with EDS Tech Support to utilize some of the customization features. “I very much appreciate being able to customize the display interface and have some control over what data displays or doesn’t display to our users. I’ve been very impressed and pleased with EDS Tech Support and their willingness to find solutions that meet our needs. They respond very quickly and are very patient with all my requests.”

Looking to the future, Lutzow sees EDS fitting in with the library’s needs. “EDS ties in beautifully with our goal of providing an easier way for students to start their research. It is a painless way for students to start, and often to finish, their search. Now that we have this discovery tool, I cannot imagine us not having it.”

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of metadata and depth and breadth of coverage.
