IPSWICH, Mass. — March 30, 2021 — University of Concepcion (UdeC) is the first library in Chile to choose FOLIO as its Library Services Platform (LSP) and will use EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) for implementation and hosting services. UdeC has started with the implementation of the FOLIO ERM and will go live with the full FOLIO LSP in June 2021.
This transition to FOLIO will provide UdeC with a more efficient management system including, optimization of e-resources and the incorporation and creation of additional modules, that better responds to library staff needs and allows the library to grow. Adopting EBSCO FOLIO and leveraging EBSCO FOLIO’s renowned team offers UdeC implementation, staff licenses, technical support, embedding of electronic resources, statistical analysis and more. As a pioneer of FOLIO in Chile, UdeC’s implementation will provide other libraries in the region a successful example of how libraries can implement an open-source library software.
UdeC Library Director, Karen Jara, says that UdeC chose FOLIO because of its fast development between versions achieved by implementing an open source platform with heavy community involvement. “The programming aspect of FOLIO, based on microservices, facilitates the integration of new functionalities and adapts the system according to our library’s needs. With the contribution of local ideas that can be shared with a community of developers, it makes it easier to innovate using the FOLIO platform.”
EBSCO’s lead FOLIO Implementation Consultant, Alexander Soto, says the implementation of FOLIO will be a point of reference for Latin American institutions looking for a truly open platform. “EBSCO has an extensive and highly experienced implementation team of consultant implementers, project managers and library engineers to support the development of workflows for electronic and print resources, as well as integrations of local and external systems. This implementation will create an ecosystem for UdeC that will improve workflows and offer new services that growing libraries are demanding today.”
EBSCO is one of the original founders of the FOLIO project and continues to be involved in the FOLIO project. EBSCO provides libraries of all size the opportunity to choose an open source LSP by providing implementation, hosting and support through EBSCO FOLIO.
