IPSWICH, Mass. — October 3, 2013 —The infectious disease information available from DynaMed™ , the clinical reference tool from EBSCO Information Services, is being enhanced by the addition of Dr. Sheila Mitsuma as a deputy editor. Mitsuma has significant clinical experience in the field at some of the top hospitals in Boston and her knowledge will now influence information used to treat patients around the world.
Mitsuma received her medical degree from Northwestern University and completed internal medicine residency and infectious disease fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. She also underwent additional subspeciality training in the care of immunocompromised hosts at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Currently, she is an associate physician at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital where she attends on the transplant infectious disease service. She also retains a position as a consultant in medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital where her research focuses on immune control of viral infections in solid-organ transplant recipients. Mitsuma is a Diplomate with both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Infectious Disease.
As the deputy editor, Mitsuma oversees the infectious disease content for DynaMed, an evidence-based clinical decision support tool that is updated daily and provides doctors and other healthcare providers with clinically organized summaries at the point of care. She supervises a team of medical writers, edits the infectious disease content and works with external specialists, peer-reviewers and writers to ensure that DynaMed provides the latest, most valid, relevant and convenient content and resources.
DynaMed Founder and Editor-in-Chief Dr. Brian Alper says that the infectious disease expertise that Mitsuma brings to DynaMed is invaluable. “Dr. Mitsuma’s knowledge of infectious diseases is impressive in breadth and depth, covering what we need to know in current clinical practice and detailed understanding of the scientific basis behind our practice. Her addition to our team has already produced major advances in providing a synthesis of the most valid, relevant evidence and guidance in the evaluation and management of infectious diseases.”
Several studies have shown that DynaMed provides the most useful information to healthcare professionals at the point of care. DynaMed ranked highest among 10 online clinical resources in a study in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology and was rated highest it its category by healthcare providers in a report on clinical decision support resources by KLAS, a research firm that specializes in monitoring and reporting the performance of healthcare vendors. DynaMed was also shown to be the most current point-of-care reference tool in a study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
