IPSWICH, Mass. — January 14, 2014—Two EBSCO Health point-of-care clinical reference tools have been rated highest in their categories by healthcare providers according to a new report on clinical decision support resources entitled Clinical Decision Support 2013: Sizing Up Point-of-Care Reference Tools*. In the report produced by KLAS, a research firm that specializes in monitoring and reporting the performance of healthcare vendors, DynaMed™, had the highest overall performance in the disease reference product category and Nursing Reference Center™ (NRC) had the highest overall performance in the nurse reference category.
DynaMed™
DynaMed is an evidence-based clinical decision support tool that is updated daily and provides doctors and other healthcare providers with clinically organized summaries at the point of care. DynaMed ranked well in all categories in the 2013 KLAS report which included how the products positively impact patient care, provide evidence-based content, helps clinicians stay current with best practices, mobile access and whether customers received their money’s worth.
Customers of DynaMed gave the resources a score of 8.6 (out of 9) when considering how well DynaMed provided evidence-based content, more than a full point higher than other resources. It was also rated highest for mobile access, receiving their money’s worth and, “providers rated DynaMed well above its competitors thanks to exceptional service and support and frequently updated, evidence-based content.”
This is the second time DynaMed has earned the highest overall performance distinction after also ranking highest in the the disease reference segment in the 2011 KLAS report on Clinical Decision Support**. The 2011 and 2013 KLAS reports are two of several studies where DynaMed ranked highest. DynaMed was also ranked highest among 10 online clinical resources in a study in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology and was also shown to be the most current point-of-care reference tool in a study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ).
Nursing Reference Center™
Nursing Reference Center was the top-rated nursing reference resource overall as well as in helping clinicians save time and providing consistent mobile access. NRC is EBSCO Health’s point-of-care resource for nurses, providing reference materials for research and for use with patients, continuing education for nurses and opportunities to strengthen nursing skills.
The 2013 report ranked resources on how well they positively impacted patient care, provide evidence-based content, help clinicians save time, provide consistent mobile access and the impact not having the product would have. The report states that, “customers appreciate the short one- to two-page summaries for the nurses. Customers also credited those succinct summaries with keeping nurses current on best practices,” and some responders indicated that not having the product would have an impact.
EBSCO Health Vice President of Medical Product Management and Chief Content Officer, Betsy Jones feels that the KLAS report demonstrates the value of EBSCO Health resources and the impact they are having on healthcare providers and their patients. “We strive to provide the most current evidence-based content that is easily accessible for clinicians. It is gratifying to see that DynaMed and Nursing Reference Center are helping providers incorporate evidence-based medical information into the way they treat their patients and that we are providing valuable resources that are affecting patient care.”

“[DynaMed] is more up to date than UpToDate.”
“I do believe DynaMed to be superior in that it takes EBSCO less time to incorporate the evidence. I like how they have an outline, and I like the integration to get the full text.
About Nursing Reference Center, “I think that it is great that everything prints out on one or two pages because then the nurses can just quickly read the information and use the best practices. Having everything on one or two pages makes everything much easier to understand.”
“Evidenced-based care sheets are written by an authoritative source and have evidence quickly incorporated.”
