IPSWICH, Mass. — April 16, 2015 — Five additional American and international historical collections from NewsBank’s Readex Division will be searchable via EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS), from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). Metadata from Readex’s Archive of Americana and international studies collections will be added into EDS and provide seamless access and full-text searching for mutual customers, enabling them to search many of the most widely used collections of primary source research materials alongside their own library’s collection.
With the continued demand for historical content, the inclusion in EDS of these primary source research materials from Readex will benefit many researchers. Spanning centuries, these datasets offer a robust collection of historical books, pamphlets, government publications and other rare printed materials. Additionally, the datasets include an English-language archive of translations of foreign materials for insight into geo-politics, national security, the Cold War and more. The five new datasets from Readex include:
- The American Civil War Collection, 1860-1922: From the American Antiquarian Society
- American Pamphlets, Series 1, 1820-1922: From New-York Historical Society
- The American Slavery Collection, 1820-1922: From the American Antiquarian Society
- American State Papers, 1789-1838
- Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS) Reports
These new datasets add to the growing amount of metadata in EDS from NewsBank’s Readex Division. Readex collections already available in EDS include: U.S. Congressional Serial Set, 1817-1994; Early American Imprints, Series I: Evans, 1639-1800; Early American Imprints, Series II: Shaw-Shoemaker, 1801-1819; Early American Imprints, Series I: Supplement from the Library Company of Philadelphia, 1670-1800; Early American Imprints, Series II: Supplement from the Library Company of Philadelphia, 1801-1819; American Broadsides and Ephemera, Series 1, 1760-1900; and Afro-Americana Imprints, 1535-1922: From the Library Company of Philadelphia.
