IPSWICH, Mass. — March 9, 2014 — Catholic University of Portugal has implemented EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) to provide a complete point of discovery for its students. Finding the right discovery service was critical for the university and though they evaluated other discovery services, the library found that EDS was the right choice due to its navigability, functionalities and strong relevance ranking.
Nuno Henriques, IT Librarian at Catholic University of Portugal says discovery is vital component of their library and they had looked at other discovery solutions but were particularly impressed with EDS. “Search and discovery, is one of the library’s most critical strategic challenges, because users could miss important and valuable information. Our librarians were particularly impressed with the navigability and functionalities in EDS. The superior relevancy ranking in EDS was also an essential factor in our decision.”
With EDS, the Catholic University of Portugal has been able to create a unique search experience for their users by incorporating many different customization options including branding, widgets, custom search boxes and subject profiles. Henriques adds “The branding and customization was very easy, fast and efficient. EBSCO Support was very dedicated to our case.” EDS provides customization options available for both the underlying collection of metadata, and for the front-end delivery of search results.
Feedback from students and staff has been very positive since the unveiling of EDS at the library. The university has also seen increased usage of the library’s resources and databases since the implementation of EDS.
EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of its relevance and value ranking technology.
