EBSCO Information Services Announces 2019 Solar Grant Submissions

~ $200,000 in Grants Available for Libraries Looking to Go Green ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — January 25, 2019 — EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) continues its commitment to helping libraries in their sustainability efforts with the 2019 EBSCO Solar grant program. As part of the EBSCO Solar initiative, EBSCO is soliciting grant applications to give libraries the opportunity to “go green” by funding solar installations. EBSCO will be accepting submissions from both domestic and international libraries.

The grants will allow winning libraries to reduce their utilities expenses and install a solar array at their institution. After seeing the benefits of “going green” on its own campus, EBSCO introduced the EBSCO Solar grant program so libraries interested in adding their own solar arrays can do so. Since 2016, EBSCO has given libraries more than $650,000 in grant money.

Red Feather Lakes Library in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and The University of West Indies, Mona in Kingston, Jamaica, received grants last year and are planning to install their arrays in 2019.

EBSCO Information Services President Tim Collins says EBSCO has benefited from adopting alternative energy sources such as solar arrays and wants to help libraries do the same. “Solar power is a great way to showcase the value of green technologies at an institution. Libraries are often the center of a campus or a community and by going green, libraries can encourage solar adoption and allow students and patrons to see the benefits. Our grants help make it easier for a library to implement a green plan or even make it viable to adopt solar power.”

Interested libraries are encouraged to submit questions until February 28th. Submissions are due by April 30th, and the winner will be announced on June 21st, 2019, both online and at ALA-Annual. More information is available on the EBSCO Solar webpage at www.ebsco.com/solar, including the timeline, where to submit questions, a link to the submission form and FAQs.
