~ Andrew Nagy Brings Extensive Library Technology and Open Source Experience to Expanding SaaS Innovation Team ~

IPSWICH, Mass.August 18, 2016EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has expanded its Software as a Service (SaaS) Team, hiring Andrew Nagy as Director of SaaS Innovation. In this role, Nagy will work directly with libraries to help support the growth and development of the open source FOLIO Library Services Platform and the EBSCO SaaS portfolio. With his background in open source software, Nagy will continue to champion open source software in libraries.

Nagy was one of the initial developers of Summon and eventually became the Product Owner and the Lead Product Manager for Discovery at ProQuest. Earlier, Nagy was a Technology Development Specialist at Villanova University where he founded and launched the open source discovery tool VuFind.

EBSCO Information Services Senior Vice President of SaaS Products and Platforms, John Law, says Nagy has extensive experience in library and open source technology. “Andrew brings an impressive range of successes which will serve us well as EBSCO expands its discovery service and works with libraries and other service providers to change the way libraries innovate using FOLIO.”

Nagy, who has written about discovery and open source technology and has spoken at a variety of library conferences, says he looks forward to evangelizing for EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) and FOLIO. “This is a tremendous time to join EBSCO. I have a lot of respect for the company’s dedication to make discovery the foundation for libraries and building a powerhouse team to grow EDS into the most-used discovery service. To then take the unprecedented step of introducing a clear pathway to make open source a viable alternative for libraries with FOLIO, EBSCO is changing the future of libraries and I want to be part of that.”

Nagy says his background as a technologist and an open source innovator are perfectly aligned with EBSCO’s plans for FOLIO. Nagy has a B.S. in Information Management and Technology from Syracuse University, and both a Master of Science in Computer Science and Master of Technology Management from Villanova University.
