EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has earned top distinction for four product solutions in the 2025 Modern Library Awards (MLAs). Core Collection en Español, LibraryAware, PrepSTEP for High Schools and OpenAthens received Modern Library Award’s highest honor, Platinum. All products have earned the Platinum award multiple years in a row.
The MLAs were established to acknowledge the best products and services in the library industry in an entirely impartial manner. Each year, more than 90,000 library professionals in the LibraryWorks readership vote on products in categories such as library hardware, software and automation services. Librarians rate each product’s quality, functionality, value and customer service experience. The 2025 Modern Library Awards were announced on January 16, 2025.
Platinum award recipients:
Core Collection in Español won platinum for the second year in a row. The product provides impartial collection development guidance, assisting libraries faced with the challenges of growing and establishing a collection for their Spanish-language readers and is part of the full suite of Core Collections products. One judge explained how Core Collection en Español helped its library, "The Core Collection en Español was so helpful when we were building our opening day collection for a new branch. This location serves a large Spanish speaking population, and we wanted high quality, relevant materials for our patrons. I especially appreciated the ratings for essential items to add to our Spanish collection across the system."
LibraryAware, third consecutive year winning platinum, is an online promotional program program from NoveList specifically for libraries to promote their collections, help raise awareness and engage their community. According to one librarian judge, "PrepSTEP has allowed our students to take charge of their learning in a way that wasn't available to them before now."
OpenAthens, a seventh consecutive honoree of the platinum award, helps more than 3,000 organizations worldwide to provide simple and secure access to online resources for their end users with their complete solution. An MLA librarian judge said “OpenAthens has significantly improved our admin and end user experience beyond recognition and in many respects.” OpenAthens celebrates its 30th birthday in 2025, and this milestone is testament of how it has developed alongside the changing needs of its valued library customers.
