WASHINGTON — The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) announced the winner of the third annual EBSCO/PEMSoft Achievement Award is Nathan Kuppermann, MD, MPH. The award is conferred annually upon an emergency physician or pediatric emergency medicine physician who has contributed significantly to evidence-based medicine in pediatric emergency care and will be officially presented to Dr. Kuppermann in March 2015 at the Advanced Pediatric Assembly meeting in New York City.
Dr. Kuppermann is the Bo Tomas Brofeldt Endowed Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of California Davis Medical Center. He has contributed to a wide range of practice-changing articles in the field of pediatric emergency medicine. He served as original chair of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Applied Research Network (PECARN) and has published multiple scientific papers with PECARN. Dr. Kuppermann’s recent publications have defined risk factors for cerebral edema in patients with DKA and derived clinical decision rules for children with minor head trauma and for abdominal imaging for children suffering trauma.
The EBSCO/PEMSoft Achievement Award includes $1,000 honoraria, registration, travel and hotel for ACEP’s Pediatric Advanced Assembly and year’s subscription to PEMSoft. Nominees for the award need to have contributed first author publications and/or contributed to practice-changing innovations in electronic publication or technology, which have meaningfully enhanced emergency care of children.
