A new agreement between EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and Wanfang Data will give researchers access to scholarly information from China through EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS.) Metadata from four Chinese databases that contain more than 35 million records of journal articles, dissertations and conference papers is now available in EDS, the world’s most-used research discovery tool.
Wanfang Data is a leading provider of electronic resources for Chinese studies, and indexes content from some of the most important published resources on Chinese culture, medicine, business, science and engineering. The databases that are now available are:
- China Local Gazetteers: nearly 27,000 Chinese gazetteer books published after 1949 that cover geographic and historic records of provinces and autonomous regions in China
- China Online Journals: more than 2.4 million records for more than 7,700 core journals in China in a variety of disciplines
- Dissertations of China: 2.7 million records for dissertations and Master’s theses from Chinese research institutions from 1980 – to date
- Academic Conferences in China: 2.8 million records from conferences held in China since 1986.
EBSCO Information Services Vice-President of Sales for Greater China Peter Kung says the agreement allows academic libraries to provide more Chinese resources to researchers. “Wanfang Data is one of the primary information providers in Greater China today. Making content from Wanfang available in EBSCO Discovery Service helps global researchers more easily access resources from China in one place.”
Xiaodong Qiao, Vice-President of Wanfang Data added, “Indexing content from Wanfang Data in EBSCO Discovery Service provides global researchers with scholarly information from China more effectively, and serves to promote the circulation of Chinese scholarly information all over the world.”
