Innovative Interfaces to Integrate Sierra with EBSCO & YBP Library Services Using New APIs

~ Integration to Provide Seamless Ordering and Workflow Efficiencies for Libraries ~

EMERYVILLE, Calif.April 14, 2015 — Innovative and EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) are pleased to announce integration of YBP Library Services (YBP) and EBSCO online ordering with Sierra. The integration will provide seamless ordering and improved workflow efficiencies.

This news follows the recent announcements of EBSCO’s API and Innovative’s Open Library Stack. The initial development will use cloud-based RESTful APIs from both Innovative and EBSCO to help libraries manage their e-book and print holdings by integrating Sierra with YBP Library Service’s GOBI ordering, automatically creating orders in Sierra’s acquisitions system within seconds of the order being placed in GOBI. Further developments will enable similar integration for EBSCO’s ECM e-book ordering and EBSCONET journal procurement and renewal systems, as well as a more streamlined process for ingesting YBP approval shipments and invoices.

The integration will leverage the value each partner offers to benefit mutual customers by significantly reducing the number of steps required to complete a purchase and improving the overall workflow. The result is significant savings in time and resources required to complete transactions, while enabling libraries to continue to use their preferred selection and ordering tools.

Innovative’s Director of Library Product Strategy, Sarah Hickman Auger explains the integration is a key example of how Sierra enables libraries to streamline their workflows, even across multiple interfaces from different vendors. "Sierra is open, so data and transactions can be shared automatically and in real-time – by providing RESTful APIs and collaborating directly with content providers, Innovative delivers solutions that are sustainable for how libraries operate today and going forward."

EBSCO’s Senior Director, Product Management, SaaS, Harry Kaplanian says the EBSCO API provides libraries with choice and allows for interoperability that lets libraries select a best of breed service to meet their unique needs. "We know that a seamless integrated workflow is an enormous issue for libraries and by providing an API that allows for real-time ordering and workflow efficiencies, we are making it easier for librarians to acquire content and track those additions to their collection."

This announcement speaks to the continued commitment of resources by Innovative and EBSCO to their established partnership and to their common philosophy of supporting choice for libraries.
