~ M.E. Sharpe Transitions from Its Proprietary Publisher Direct Database Platform, Works with EBSCO to Assure Customers Maintain Perpetual Access ~

IPSWICH, Mass.June 24, 2014M.E. Sharpe, the publisher of award-winning Sharpe Reference titles, has decided to discontinue Sharpe-Online Reference (SOLR) and has partnered with EBSCO Information Services to ensure that customers maintain perpetual access to the titles they have purchased. SOLR customers have been given unlimited simultaneous use access to their titles on EBSCO eBooks to help them during a transition period and once the SOLR platform is no longer accessible customers will continue to have access via EBSCO eBooks.

Sharpe Online Reference was created to bring together 31 award-winning Sharpe Reference encyclopedias in a single, cross-searchable database. The decision to move titles off the platform allows ME Sharpe to make those titles available through other vendors.

M.E. Sharpe Vice President of Marketing & Sales, Diana McDermott, states, “It has become increasingly apparent to us that libraries need more flexibility in their choice of e-book platform when they are acquiring the award-winning content available from Sharpe Reference. We are therefore happy to be partnering with EBSCO in this new venture. EBSCO’s presence in academic, school, and public libraries worldwide, and its commitment to providing our customers with perpetual access to the SOLR titles they have purchased, made EBSCO the ideal choice.”

EBSCO Vice President of Product Management, E-books, Ken Breen, says EBSCO is happy to step in to support M.E. Sharpe customers. “EBSCO is committed to e-books and e-book customers, we know libraries have concerns about preservation and perpetual access and we want to support libraries and do what we can to ensure that titles that are purchased are accessible.” As with all EBSCO eBooks, SOLR customers will receive access with no annual hosting or access fees of any kind.
