National Health Library & Knowledge Service Extends Access to CINAHL® Complete in Republic of Ireland

~ The Largest Full-Text Collection of Nursing and Allied Health Literature Now Available to More Republic of Ireland Health Professionals~

HSE’s National Health Library & Knowledge Service (NHLKS) has extended access to CINAHL® Complete from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) for a greater number of health professionals working in the Republic of Ireland. CINAHLComplete enables Irish health professionals to apply up-to-the-minute clinical evidence in their practice.

CINAHLComplete is the world’s premier nursing and allied health database, and includes more than six million records and full-text articles for more than 1,200 clinical journals. It is an indispensable resource for nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, allowing them to stay current with research, evidence and therapeutic advances.

The NHLKS is making CINAHL Complete available as part of its Strategic Plan, which notes significant inequity in access to digital knowledge services. Digital library systems, electronic subscriptions and collaboration with Higher Education library services for access to their online knowledge services vary markedly across the country.

HSE National Health Service Librarian Aoife Lawton says extending access of CINAHL Complete will help meet the needs of all its health professionals. “Our service is committed to ending inequity of access and ensuring that the latest research is available to health professionals working in Ireland, regardless of location or institutional affiliation.”

Lawton adds that extending access also supports the HSE’s goals and plans for 2020. “Broader access to CINAHL Complete aligns the NHLKS with its stated goal of a single, fully integrated service, designed to improve outcomes for patients and service users, and embedded as an intrinsic part of health and care delivery, with the aims of Sláintecare. Additionally, it advances the aim stated in the HSE National Service Plan 2020, to ensure that in 2020 all staff working in hospital and community settings have free online access to eHealth Library services.”
