NHS Wales Informatics Service has made EBSCO Health’s DynaMed Plus™ available to all NHS Wales staff via the NHS Wales e-Library for Health. It provides access to the most current, evidence-based clinical information on thousands of topics and specialties to healthcare professionals. DynaMed Plus provides comprehensive coverage and current, relevant clinical updates, bringing vital knowledge to physicians and healthcare professionals at the point of care.
DynaMed Plus is updated daily to produce a collection of the most current evidence curated from more than 500 medical journals. It incorporates over 21,000 global guidelines including National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) guidelines. The Royal College of General Practitioners has awarded DynaMed Plus Accreditation as a learning tool so General Practitioners can use DynaMed Plus to support their revalidation and earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.
In addition to including the most current and relevant evidence, DynaMed Plus has features and a structure to speed the time to answer for users. The bulleted summary of topics offers the most concise, evidence-based recommendations with easily accessible supporting references. Additionally, it includes a semantic search functionality and a “Follow” feature that allows users to set up alerts when topics are updated with new evidence and guidelines.
Physicians are relying on smartphones more and more, so the DynaMed Plus mobile app is free and available for Android and iOS platforms. The mobile app is designed to operate regardless of network connectivity to help overcome issues that physicians may face with inconsistent mobile service. DynaMed Plus will be updated when it is connected to the network but once content is downloaded, a physician can use the mobile app even if there is a poor signal or no signal at all.
Senior Vice-President of Medical Product Management, Betsy Jones, says the addition of DynaMed Plus will enhance NHS Wales’ already robust offerings for clinicians and healthcare professionals. “NHS Wales provides vital healthcare services to roughly three million individuals. We’re looking forward to continuing our work together, providing staff members with the most accurate clinical information at the point of care.”
The NHS Wales e-Library for Health is aimed at supporting effective healthcare delivery by providing evidence-based, relevant and timely information to support NHS Wales. It is accessible by all 92,000+ NHS Wales staff, contract holders, including community pharmacists, dentists and hospice workers; students on placement and departments of Welsh Government.
DynaMed Plus will be available to all NHS Wales staff instantly from within the NHS Wales network through the e-Library intranet site (http://howis.wales.nhs.uk/elibrary) and via OpenAthens from home or public Wi-Fi via the e-Library internet site (http://www.wales.nhs.uk/elibrary).
