National Research Council (Cnr) Becomes First Institution in Latin Europe to Adopt Panorama™ from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO)

The National Research Council (Cnr) becomes the first institution in Latin Europe to adopt the Panorama platform from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). As the first implementation of Panorama in Latin Europe, Cnr will serve as an example for libraries in the territory that want to obtain more specific data on their resources.

Cnr, which will celebrate the centenary of its founding in 2023, is the country's leading public research organization, with nearly 300 branches throughout Italy. The G. Marconi Central Library (Guglielmo Marconi) coordinates a network of nearly 90 libraries between Cnr Institutes and Areas, manages contracts for access to journals, publications and databases for its entire scientific community and provides a range of services for libraries and of broader interest such as ISSN.

Guglielmo Marconi Library Director and Director of Cnr's Information Heritage and Statistics Office, Giovanni De Simone, says that the events of recent years have highlighted the need to acquire data on activities and services provided by Cnr. “We measure these activities to guide strategic choices and optimize available resources, and to ensure a correct and integral evaluation of the complex of activities and services of the institution."

As Cnr concludes a reorganization of its activities, management and scientific network, De Simone says support for better management and evaluation of its work is important. "For the Cnr library system, acquiring, analyzing and processing data in a clear and timely manner about the use of its collections, resources and services, as well as the users and their needs, is an unavoidable need and one that Panorama allows us to meet.”

EBSCO’s Vice President of Sales, Latin Europe & Israel, Gianluca Di Bella, this implementation underscores the challenges data management presents for libraries. "The first-rate technology used for Panorama allows for simplified reporting and, more importantly, for combining different library and institutional data to achieve a much more holistic view of data analysis. Once implemented, we plan to work together to integrate other local systems modules."
