Notre Dame University-Louaize in Lebanon Switches to EBSCO Discovery Service™

~Easy Integration, More Search Options and Good Support Lead to Decision to Implement EDS ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — April, 21, 2014Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) in the country of Lebanon has replaced its previous discovery tool with EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) due to its easy integration, more search options and better overall support.

NDU was looking to make its library resources more visible to users and they found that EDS offered more solutions to optimize their catalog and provide a better search experience. Joseph Mhanna, Head of the eResources and Serials Department at the NDU Libraries says “With EDS we were able to smoothly include our catalog records with Real-Time Availability Checking. Additionally, we included book jackets from our Syndetic Solutions subscription. This helped to make our resources more visible.”

EDS allows users many options for assisting users during the search and at every level – from undergraduate research, to an advanced graduate-level research experience. When comparing EDS to their previous discovery tool, Mhanna notes that EDS offered more intuitive facets and limiters. “We found that EDS provided more ways to filter/narrow down results, such as Publication, Author, Geography, Location and Content Provider.”

The library went live with EDS this spring concurrent with the launch of the library’s new website. Mhanna says the assistance from EBSCO during this time has been great and is one of the reasons they are with EDS. “The support we have received from EBSCO was definitely one of the factors that prompted the change. Good support from our discovery service was important to us.”

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of metadata and depth and breadth of coverage.
