Oklahoma Panhandle State University Chooses EBSCO Discovery Service™

~ With an Easy-to-Use Interface and Great Value, School Has Seen Increased Usage of Library Resources ~

IPSWICH, Mass. March  23, 2015Oklahoma Panhandle State University has selected EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) as its library discovery tool. The university chose EDS to increase resource usage and improve library visibility at its Marvin E. McKee Library.

The university needed a discovery tool that would increase exposure of library resources to users, and EBSCO Discovery Service was the perfect solution. Elaina Stewart, Systems and Electronic Resources Librarian at McKee Library, attributes this wider use of resources in part to the dynamic interface of EDS. “EDS is a practical interface for the undergrads who use McKee Library’s resources. Search steps are simple and provide concrete results for beginning researchers. But, at the same time, advanced researchers can easily filter, sort and identify specific results for library-owned materials.” As a result of choosing EDS, the library has seen a 300% increase of full-text downloads between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014.

More importantly, EBSCO Discovery Service brought this increased usage at a great value. Stewart says, “Small institutions have small budgets, and very rarely have budget increases in today’s economy. McKee Library is very value-conscious and strives to get the most out of any money that we spend on behalf of our university.”

Ultimately, Stewart believes EDS has helped the library achieve its primary goal—helping its users. “Marvin E. McKee Library’s ultimate goals always relate back to the success of our users. EDS has new innovations that will be coming forward in the near future and McKee Library will be anticipating setting these in place for our small, but active, group of researchers.”

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of its relevance and value ranking technology.
