IPSWICH, Mass. — June 26, 2014 — SWAN (System Wide Automated Network) in Illinois has chosen EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) and Sirsi Dynix to offer its 77 member libraries a flexible option for their discovery needs. The seamless interoperability of EBSCO Discovery Service from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and SirsiDynix’s eResource Central solution will provide improved discovery and delivery of content for SWAN members.
The SWAN consortium of libraries was seeking to streamline searching for library users. Aaron Skog SWAN Executive Director says they had been looking for a solution for their diverse group of libraries for a while. “Our libraries have expressed a need to get away from a multitude of search interfaces and to bring search and delivery of online content into one place, which for SWAN starting in 2015, will be with EBSCO Discovery Service and SirsiDynix Enterprise. EDS was the right fit for us to gather together all of the available online content that a library provides and present a unified search to the user.”
Skog adds that the EDS Sirsi Dynix solution will offer more choices and unique access for each one of their libraries. “Online subscription content is primarily licensed on a per library basis, so the challenges within a shared catalog are to create a discovery environment where individual libraries in our group can utilize the discovery platform and add subscription content without having to 100% agree as a group on that content. SWAN will build a flexible platform with SirsiDynix Enterprise and use EBSCO Discovery Service so that each library in SWAN can tailor the subscription content to best meet their users.”
EBSCO Information Services Vice President of Discovery Innovation, Public Libraries & K12 Schools, Gar Sydnor, says “The collaboration between EBSCO and SirsiDynix streamlines accessibility to all the library resources and exposes relevant, trusted content that patrons may not be aware exists in their library today. The EDS Sirsi Dynix partnership is the perfect solution for a library consortium like SWAN to unlock value for its library members and better market the libraries' resources to its local community.”
SWAN is a membership organization that is designed for libraries in the Chicago, Illinois area to house their collections and data in a shared, collaborative environment.
EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of its relevance and value ranking technology.
