IPSWICH, Mass. — Dec. 17, 2024 — The Texas State University Libraries have successfully transitioned to the FOLIO library services platform (LSP) with support from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). This migration — completed alongside the adoption of EBSCO’s other SaaS offerings — was finalized in Fall 2024, replacing the university's previous library management system and discovery infrastructure.
Texas State University Libraries provide collaborative study areas, advanced research tools, and a wealth of cultural resources. The Texas State University Libraries will integrate FOLIO with several of EBSCO’s SaaS offerings, such as EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) for intuitive resource discovery, Locate for unified catalog management, and Panorama for centralized library and user data reporting, which has been seamlessly carried over from the previous integrated library system (ILS). Integrating FOLIO's open-source platform with EBSCO's SaaS offerings is designed to streamline access to resources, enhance research efficiency, and reinforce the university's commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and academic excellence.
Vice Provost and University Librarian Dr. Kelly Visnak says FOLIO provides long-term potential in both flexibility and adaptability. “Our migration to FOLIO has been a game-changer for Texas State University Libraries as we become a more global university. FOLIO gives our students 24/7 access to digital resources from anywhere. As an open-source platform, FOLIO is positioned to evolve with our future needs, ensuring that we remain well-equipped to support our researchers’ needs today and well into the future.”
EBSCO SaaS Director Greg Padilla emphasizes the importance of supporting this growing initiative. “Texas State University’s transition to FOLIO reflects a shared commitment to innovation and user-centered library services. FOLIO’s open-source framework, paired with tools like EDS and Locate, ensures the library can deliver seamless access to resources while optimizing operational efficiency. By collaborating with Texas State, we are proud to help empower their academic community with the technologies and support needed to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving research landscape.”
As FOLIO gains traction in the ILS space, its growing community brings together diverse and innovative perspectives from around the world. Its collaborative nature fosters partnerships among libraries, vendors, and developers, enabling the creation of new services, streamlined updates, and faster advancements. Currently, EBSCO-supported FOLIO implementations serve more than 200 libraries, spanning academic research institutions, consortia, shared systems, universities of all sizes, community colleges, and public libraries.
