IPSWICH, Mass. — April 1, 2021 — The University of Tennessee at Martin (UT Martin) and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) will be transitioning to the FOLIO Library Services Platform (LSP) using EBSCO FOLIO hosting and implementation services from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). Both universities will be fully live with FOLIO by summer 2021.

EBSCO is one of the original founders of the FOLIO project and provides implementation, hosting and support through EBSCO FOLIO. The University of Tennessee at Martin and Middle Tennessee State University are the first institutions in the state to begin transitioning to the FOLIO LSP. UT Martin and MTSU will serve as an example of how Tennessee universities can benefit from the innovativeness and flexibility of EBSCO FOLIO.

Dr. Erik Nordberg, Dean of the Paul Meek Library at UT Martin says that choosing EBSCO FOLIO for implementation and hosting was an obvious choice. “The EBSCO FOLIO migration team’s comprehensive experience with transitioning libraries of all sizes was an encouraging factor in deciding to use EBSCO for hosting and implementation services. EBSCO has earned a reputation as a valued partner to academic libraries, providing high-quality products at a reasonable price, which directly impact the teaching, learning, and research mission of our institution.”

MTSU’s Library Dean, Kathleen Schmand says that adopting FOLIO provides the university with the opportunity to contribute and connect with trends in library services. “Combining our ILS and ERM in combination with a better discovery experience while reducing costs was definitely a draw for us in selecting FOLIO in the short-term. In the long-term, the open source nature of the project and responsiveness to change in library trends will definitely be an asset for customization and future needs.”

EBSCO FOLIO can easily integrate with existing EBSCO resources for better library workflows and patron services including the EBSCO Knowledge Base, which streamlines electronic resource management, and EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). UT Martin and MTSU will be using EDS as the institution’s search solution. During this transition, UT Martin will also start leveraging OpenAthens for single sign-on authentication, and MTSU will transition to Full Text Finder to provide a fast, reliable search experience.
