Universidad Autónoma de Occidente in Colombia Chooses EBSCO Discovery Service™

~ Ease, Speed and Breadth of Coverage Key Reasons for Selecting EDS ~

IPSWICH, Mass.March 31, 2014Universidad Autónoma de Occidente has chosen EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) as its discovery tool. The library was looking for something easy to use but sophisticated enough to provide quality results. After evaluating other discovery services, the library realized that EDS provided everything their users needed in one place creating an excellent search experience.

When the Library started to look for a discovery tool they knew users wanted a simple search and a resource to integrate all the library’s resources but they were pleasantly surprised by the breadth of coverage in EDS. Hugo Gallo, Director of the Library at Universidad Autónoma de Occidente says “Our researchers had been accustomed to using Google-like searching so we wanted something very easy to use as well as a tool to search all the library’s resources. We found EDS to be a powerful tool for information retrieval. The speed and ease of use is what we needed but we also found the content to be broad and effective”.

EBSCO’s support also made an impact on their decision to implement EDS. Gallo says “EBSCO is a company with a long history and that gives us security. They have always provided great support and we know that they will always be willing to provide assistance when needed.”

Universidad Autónoma de Occidente will work with EBSCO in the next several months to add its Institutional Repository into EDS, providing even more content from the single search interface—creating a truly custom collection. The library will also create RSS feeds and utilize some of the EDS customization features.

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of metadata and depth and breadth of coverage.
