Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Selects EBSCO Discovery Service™

~ Largest University in Latin America Upgrades from its Existing Discovery Provider to EBSCO Discovery Service™ ~

IPSWICH, Mass.February 9, 2015 — Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City, Mexico makes the switch from another discovery provider’s service to EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), produced by EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO).

UNAM was founded in 1551, making it the oldest university in North America. It is the largest university in Latin America and was ranked in the top 200 best universities in the world according to the THES - QS World University Rankings.

The university’s library system, comprised of more than130 libraries, had been using another discovery solution but after a side-by-side comparison they decided to migrate to EDS for its highly-refined relevancy ranking and superior search experience. Dr. Adolfo Rodríguez Gallardo, Director General of Libraries at UNAM says “When we looked at EDS we were impressed with their relevancy ranking system as it returned the best results. EBSCO also built a tailored discovery experience for our university by integrating the Spanish Thesaurus (Autoridades UNAM) and loading our 11 catalogs.”

The technical support services of the EBSCO Discovery Service team, was also a big part of the decision to go with EDS. Dr. Rodríguez says “EDS Tech Support always had great disposition to find solutions that meet our needs.”

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of its relevance and value ranking technology.
