~ South African University Adopts the Library Services Platform with Implementation Services from Universal Knowledge Software ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — October 6, 2022 — University of Zululand (UNIZULU) located in South Africa has successfully adopted the FOLIO Library Services Platform (LSP). The implementation was managed and completed by local service partner Universal Knowledge Software (UKS) and EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). EBSCO will continue to offer infrastructure, integration and hosting services for the university through EBSCO FOLIO.

UNIZULU will leverage the FOLIO LSP for the management of users and circulation operations, as well as cataloging activities. The library also has plans to adopt the new EBSCO User Interface and the FOLIO OPAC Locate.

UNIZULU’s Integrated Library Systems Manager, Eric Sbusiso Skosana, says that this integration provides UNIZULU with openness and choice made possible by the support of an open-source community and partners like UKS and EBSCO. “It’s FOLIO’s open-source system, robust library community and use of modern technology that will allow us to integrate with various third-party library systems of our choice, optimizing our daily library workflow.”

EBSCO Information Services Director of FOLIO Partnerships, Mark Allcock, says that EBSCO continues to provide libraries worldwide with services that make adopting open-source technology a reality. “EBSCO FOLIO Services with the support of local service providers like UKS provides implementation, hosting and support from reliable specialists, allowing institutions to leverage FOLIO creating a more efficient library workflow.”

Universal Knowledge Software’s CEO, Neesha Ramsumar, says that UKS continues to help libraries in South Africa to implement solutions that improve their workflows. “The FOLIO implementation at  UNIZULU has provided the institution with flexibility in managing their resources and boundless opportunities for the future. UKS’s involvement with UNIZULU’s adoption of FOLIO shows libraries across the region our commitment to open-source technology in libraries.”
