IPSWICH, Mass. —Nov. 26, 2024— Virginia Military Institute (VMI) selected FOLIO as its new library system using EBSCO Information Services’ (EBSCO) support. The EBSCO FOLIO Services team will ensure VMI’s seamless transition to the open-source Library Services Platform (LSP), which is expected to go live in Summer 2025.
Founded in 1839, VMI is the first state-supported military college in the United States. VMI’s Preston Library is an essential part of the undergraduates’ learning experience, providing robust reference and research services and access to a wide range of resources, emphasizing the power of education.
EBSCO will offer comprehensive support through technical expertise, training resources, and integration services to help VMI effectively use FOLIO's modular architecture. This collaborative approach will enable the library staff to enhance operational efficiency and improve their research experience while leveraging FOLIO's flexibility and functionality.
Pongracz Sennyey, Director of the Preston Library, explains the benefits of switching to the open-source LSP and the value of joining the FOLIO community. “FOLIO will allow us to customize our library systems to meet the unique needs of our cadets and faculty. FOLIO will also allow us to leverage EDS as our discovery tool in an integrated system. We are excited to join the FOLIO community and to collaborate with other libraries, staying at the forefront of library innovation and best practices.”
EBSCO Information Services Director of SaaS Innovation Andrew Nagy says FOLIO is more than a platform; it is a community. “More and more institutions are adopting FOLIO using EBSCO FOLIO Services. VMI isn’t just getting a best-in-class LSP; it is joining a community of developers, engineers, libraries, vendors, and more, all working towards a common goal: creating a platform that inspires innovation and delivers on its promise of creating a future of openness.”
