Wingate University Chooses EBSCO Discovery Service™

~ EDS Enables Students to Focus on Information Discovered ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — June 2, 2014 — Wingate University in North Carolina has chosen EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) to provide a complete point of discovery for its students.

Wingate University wanted to provide a centralized search experience for students that involved fewer clicks for researchers to engage with content. Debra Hargett, E-Resources & Special Collections Librarian at Wingate says “With a more streamlined search option available users can focus their research on the information discovered, rather than the steps in making it discoverable.”

EDS will not only provide Wingate with a simplified search experience but a complete discovery layer experience. EDS provides Wingate users with helpful features and functionality for refined searching, to direct access to full text and other superior content, and superior user tools for easy content management. Hargett says they also plan to take advantage of some of the customization options to meet the needs of its end users. “Our library plans to customize our EDS colors, chat options, and LibGuides, as well as call it something unique, once we review user feedback from our usability study.”

Hargett also credits their decision to EBSCO’s excellent support. “EBSCO has always provided us with information, details and quality products. The technical support EBSCO provides is essential for the functionality of a library with a staff as small as ours. The Discovery Service Engineers have helped provide solutions through excellent support and training at the point of need.”

Looking ahead, the university is hoping to drive more users to the library and sees EBSCO Discovery Service as a big part of the solution. “By implementing EDS we hope users will see the online resources the library provides as their first choice for discovery in completing assignments.”

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box-searching made even more powerful because of the quality of its relevance and value ranking technology.
