Biography

H. Arthur Klein was educated at Leland Stanford Junior University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in arts, and he attended Occidental College where he received a master’s degree. Also, Klein studied at the graduate level at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Berlin, and the Handelshochschule in Berlin. He was married to fellow author and editor Mina Klein. He wrote for newspapers, written feature articles, and did publicity work. In addition to writing, Klein’s interests included swimming, surfing, diving, music, travel, and art.

Klein belonged to several literary organizations including the Authors’ League of America and the National Association of Science Writers. He was also a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, the Friends of the University of California at Los Angeles Library, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Klein was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

Klein, in collaboration with his wife, Mina Klein, wrote or edited works on a variety of topics, including surfing, Israel, Hitler, lasers, architecture, holography, and electrochemistry. Also, Klein and his wife wrote biographies of the artists Peter Bruegel and Kaethe Kollwitz. In 1963, Klein was the producer of a film about Bruegel.
