Squirrel monkey
Squirrel monkeys are small primates known for their distinctive black and white facial markings, which have led to them being referred to as "death's head monkeys" in some cultures. These agile creatures, belonging to the genus Saimiri, can be found in Central and South America, where they inhabit rainforests, plains forests, swamps, and marshlands. There are seven recognized species of squirrel monkeys, characterized by their grayish brown fur on the back and orange fur on their undersides. They typically weigh between 18 and 39 ounces and have a body length of 10 to 14 inches, with tails longer than their bodies that aid in balancing while navigating the treetops.
Squirrel monkeys are social animals, often living in large groups of 30 to 50 individuals, although sometimes they can be found in larger gatherings. Their diet is omnivorous, primarily consisting of fruits, nuts, insects, and small animals, which they forage high in the canopy to avoid predators. Mating occurs in November and December, with a gestation period of about five months, typically resulting in the birth of one offspring. Young monkeys depend on their mothers for the first ten months of life. While some squirrel monkey species are considered endangered or near threatened, others have stable populations. Their lifespan ranges from 10 to 20 years in the wild.

Squirrel monkey
Squirrel monkeys have black and white markings on their faces that make them resemble human skulls. Some Germans call squirrel monkeys "death's head monkeys" because of those markings on their faces. Squirrel monkeys were given the name squirrel because they move through the trees of the forest just like squirrels.

There are seven species of squirrel monkeys, all in the genus Saimiri. Squirrel monkeys have grayish brown fur across their backs and orangish fur on their bellies, legs, and hands. They have black circles around their mouths and white circles around their eyes. They have small, pointed ears that stick out a little on either side of their head. Male and female squirrel monkeys grow to be between 10 and 14 inches long (25 to 35 centimeters) with 14- to 17- inch (35 to 42 centimeter) tails. Males weigh between 26 and 39 ounces (750 to 1,100 grams). Female squirrel monkeys are a little smaller than the males. They weigh about 18 to 26 ounces (500 to 750 grams). Squirrel monkeys use their tails for balance as they climb through the trees.
Squirrel monkeys are native to Central and South America. Squirrel monkeys are sometimes found in towns, farmland, and citrus groves, but they like to live in places farther away from humans. Squirrel monkeys like to live in rain forests, forests in plains areas, swamps, and marshlands. They usually live in groups of 30 to 50 members, although occasionally groups can number in the hundreds.
Squirrel monkeys are omnivorous, or meat and plant eating. They eat fruits, nuts, berries, small birds, insects, and reptiles. They usually look for food high up in the forest canopy. They are well hidden there from dangerous birds of prey and a variety of other forest animals.
Mating season for the squirrel monkey is usually in November and December. The gestation period (duration of pregnancy) is between five and 5 1/2 months. The female then gives birth to one young. The young monkey crawls onto its mother's back and rides there for the first few weeks. It stays with its mother until it reaches 10 months old. Females may remain with the mother for longer, and males join other males. Non-pregnant females often help the new mothers raise their young. Squirrel monkeys can breed when they are between three and five years.
The squirrel monkey has a life span of 10 to 20 years. Some species of squirrel monkey are endangered or near threatened, while others are not threatened.
