Meeting the Research Needs of Students and Faculty

According to Junjie Ji, leader of the library’s collection development team, Nanjing Agricultural University did not have a strong international database to support its Agricultural Economics and Management program. When he and his colleagues learned that more than 30 A-level universities in China subscribe to EconLit with Full Text, they took a closer look and quickly recognized the database’s value. After a two-month trial, the institution began their own subscription on July 1, 2016.

A key factor in the University's decision to purchase EconLit with Full Text was the breadth of content which includes essential full-text publications with no embargo. Specifically, Ji said, journals from the American Economic Association such as American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Literature and Journal of Economic Perspectives are helping the library better meet the research needs of the University’s faculty members and post-graduate students in the College of Economics and Management.

“The staff use EconLit with Full Text to support their research, and post-graduate students use it to complete their dissertations,” Ji said, adding that a researcher looking to publish a scholarly article in an international journal can also find authoritative references to support his or her studies.

Users can easily access EconLit with Full Text via EBSCOhost from the library’s homepage. The library subscribes to a total of 117 databases from a variety of vendors; however, usage statistics indicate that “EBSCO products are quite popular among our users,” Ji said.

Professor Jing Zhu, who is the Director of the College of Economics and Management, said she has been waiting for EconLit with Full Text for a long time. “I am really happy to know that we can finally use this database at Nanjing Agricultural University.”
