Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background in healthcare.
I earned a nursing diploma in Montreal and continued my education when moving to the U.S., eventually earning an MSN in nursing education. The majority of my clinical career was spent in the Emergency Departments of level one trauma centers, as well as community hospitals. In my spare time, I love to travel, cook and volunteer with animals.
What did you do prior to joining Dynamic Health’s clinical editor team?
After leaving the bedside, I loved being a nurse educator and freelance writer for various nursing journals. These two interests merged very nicely when I accepted a position as a clinical editor. I’ve also worked as a case manager/health coach at a large health insurance company, as well as a medical policy writer, before coming to EBSCO.
What inspired you to become a healthcare professional?
When deciding on a career, I wanted something where I could make a difference. I’ve always loved working with people, and learning about the things we have in common, as well as our differences. While working in the Emergency Department, I was grateful and honored to be in a position to help others through some of most difficult times of their lives.
What drew you to work at EBSCO on our clinical decisions products?
Over the course of my career, and especially when I worked as a nurse educator, I saw nurses struggle with getting the information they need to help their patients quickly and knowledgably. I love being able to help make their jobs easier and I consider it a privilege to help the next generations of nurses learn the art and science of the role.
What makes you passionate about working in healthcare?
At the bedside, being able to help people when they are at their most vulnerable and teaching them how to attend to their health, as well as how to be strong advocates for themselves, is something I didn’t take lightly. At this stage of my career, I love creating content that helps nurses take care of their patients and makes their jobs easier.
What is your advice for people who are thinking about joining the healthcare space?
It can be an incredibly rewarding career where you can have a huge impact on the lives of others. It’s also a huge responsibility, so taking care of yourself is vital.
Can you talk a little bit about your work on Dynamic Health?
At Dynamic Health, I write new clinical content topics in several formats to be used in clinical practice, as well as update existing clinical content topics. I serve as a content specialist and facilitate topic development and enhancement. Most recently, I have taken on a leadership role within the Clinical Editors Writers Group to promote our work within EBSCO and beyond.
Thank you, Lucia! We’re glad to have you onboard.
