Brian Alper, MD, MSPH, FAAFP, FAMIA developed a clinical decision support platform aimed to provide evidence-based solutions at the point of care 25 years ago. That solution was DynaMed®. DynaMed provides the most useful information to clinicians where and when they need it, enhancing clinical decision support. Ten years later, in 2005, Dr. Alper partnered with EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) to help advance the platform. With DynaMed now a flagship product among a family of decision support tools, 2020 marks a new transition as Dr. Alper moves on from his work at EBSCO to create positive change for healthcare and scientific researchers.
Dr. Alper has announced the launch of Computable Publishing, LLC., a company which is looking to enable standard-based, machine-interpretable expression of public knowledge related to healthcare and scientific evidence. Computable Publishing will work to standardize and streamline scientific data to help researchers and systematic reviewers access and interpret the information they need to reach new discoveries.

This initiative builds off of Dr. Alper’s recent work with the COVID-19 Knowledge Accelerator (COKA) which convenes informatics experts, engineers, policymakers, medical professionals and researchers to collaborate on the best way to address electronic knowledge processing for COVID-19 scientific knowledge. Most recently, as Chief Medical Knowledge Officer at EBSCO, Dr. Alper led a team of EBSCO innovators to develop COVID-19 Information and Updates, a portal that aggregates real-time information on COVID-19 from governments, agencies and trusted open-access sources. Both initiatives pursue the same goal — to streamline research and knowledge discovery in a time when the pace of discovery and dissemination of information is faster than ever before.
Dr. Alper is shifting his focus from providing evidence-based support to the healthcare community as providers look to make informed decisions, to supporting the identification and dissemination of the evidence itself.
As a long-time provider of academic research databases, the team at EBSCO congratulates Dr. Alper on this new chaper in his mission to make a postive impact on the healthcare and science community. We will continue to support his efforts on this exciting journey. For more information, visit Computable Publishing, LLC.
